The Texas Live Stock Journal for Saturday, December 1, 1883 announced, “It is reported that Capt. Richard King, who is engaged enclosing a new pasture along the Gulf coast and lower Rio Grande, has fenced, or is fencing in, about fifty small land owners, nearly all Mexicans. The pasture will embrace 137 leagues…The fence enclosing this pasture is eighty-three miles long, extending from the corner of Capt.
