Welcome to the Garis Gallery of the American West
Explore the American West past through the personal art collection of Mr. Jim Garis. Mr. Garis was a local oil man and art lover, who had an eye for upcoming artists, but first and foremost, he collected what he liked. This resulted in an eclectic collection that provides our guests with a chance to see some of the greatest western artists in history, along with the work of many living artists.
Ranging from historic masters of American West, the collection features Frederic Remington, Charles Marion Russell, George Catlin, Charles Livingston Bull and Albert Bierstadt – to award-winning pieces by living artists, such as John Coleman, Harold T. Holden and Larry Pirnie. Visitors, we hope, will leave feeling like they have experienced the west through the eyes of these artists. Through diligent research in the past few years, we have uncovered many true stories of these artists and specific works of art from the paintings of landscapes and moments in history, to the bronzes in our collection that include master sculptors, Oklahomans Harold T. Holden and Paul Moore and Allan Houser, among others.
We also feature temporary exhibitions that provide regional artists, both well-known and rising to the public’s view for six to 10 week shows. You can learn more about artists who have shown here, to those currently showing or upcoming, all here on our website. We feature exhibitions provided by ExhibitsUSA, a Mid-America Arts Alliance and the Smithsonian.
We strive to offer visitors a unique experience to viewing and learning about art, in an intimate gallery setting for both our permanent collection featured in our Garis Gallery of the American West, to the temporary exhibitions we offer throughout the year.
