Route 66 is the Mother Road of America and in Oklahoma, it connects the east and west. Oklahoma is a land of agriculture, oil, aviation and a history rich in Native American culture. Travelers through Oklahoma get a chance to experience all of these things, even as they cruise Route 66.
Route 66 became a part of Oklahoma’s permanent landscape in 1926. It extends from the state’s northeast corner through Tulsa to Oklahoma City and into the Texas Panhandle heading west through America. Back then, Oklahoma Highway commissioner Cyrus Avery, “Father of Route 66,” who called for a major route stretching from Chicago to Los Angeles. Today, Route 66 dots the horizon with small-town and plenty of landmarks. Route 66 still attracts tourists – who travel from around the world to see America through different lenses.
