Free Movie Night at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center

How many boys joined William ‘Wil’ Anderson (John Wayne) in the 1972 movie, “The Cowboys?”

“The Cowboys” are coming to Duncan, on a big screen! Join us for the first of four free Cowboy Movie Nights in 2020, on Friday, March 13.

Come and enjoy some popcorn, be prepared to laugh, get mad at the bad guys (of course there are bad guys, it’s a western with John Wayne and Bruce Dern!) Also starring Colleen Dewhurst, Slim Pickens and that ragtag bunch of school boys who decide being a cowboy might be easier. (We hear you laughing!)

Our theater seats 50 and the movie starts at 6 p.m.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Bring your own snacks and choice of beverage!

Please read through all this information if you are interested. There’s even a FAQ section below!

Cowpokes & Brush Strokes is a hands-on arts and music adventure for kids ages 2-4 and their “big person” to explore the process of becoming creative individuals.

8 Monday sessions: 1:45 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 27 to Monday March 16

Cost:
Chisholm Trail Heritage Center Members – 8 sessions for $16/additional child $8 (Become a member today when you enroll your child)
Non-members: 8 sessions for $24/additional child $16

This program is one of our most popular programs and fills quickly. We have limited space available!
Call today (580) 252-6692 to reserve your cowpoke’s space or email leah@onthechisholmtrail.com

FAQ:
Do we have to bring our child/children every week? No, but the price is the same as you are paying for the 8 week program.

What if you cancel a Monday session because of bad weather? We will extend it another week to make up for that missed day.

Can I bring my infants or other siblings? Yes, but the program is for 2-4 year old children, and supplies are for those who are enrolled/paid in the program.

Do I have to stay with my child during the program? Yes, this is not a drop-off program. Parents and or grandparents must stay and be responsible for your child. The art activities are designed for parent and child interaction.

What can I expect from this program?
This program helps children build social interaction, and a child may feel shy the first time or two, but we encourage you to continue to bring your child each Monday. We have seen friendships form between the children and parents, with many returning for future programs.

Each Monday is a different theme, with art, storytelling and music. The children create art projects they take home with them each Monday.

POSTPONED! Cowboys and Cobbler Throwdown @ Chisholm Trail Heritage Center
Apr 4 @ 12:30 pm – 5:00 pm

POSTPONED – COVID19 pandemic. We will reschedule.

Cowboys and Cobbler Throwdown

Cowboys and Cobbler Throwdown is a new event coming to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, Saturday, April 4, 2020. This tasty, fun fundraiser is open to all cowboys, cattle queens, and of course, bakers, youth ages 10-17; and adults, 18 and older.

Bakers must enter their own home-cooked cobbler. Bakers are limited to a maximum of two different cobblers. Dutch oven cobblers, large casserole and deep dish cobblers are all acceptable, but pies will not be accepted. There is no entry fee.

Registration forms due by Friday, March 27. Late registrations will be accepted with a fee of $20, deadline April 2.

Non-monetary prizes to be awarded in four different categories, including a People’s Choice award, for both youth and adults divisions. The cobbler in both youth and adult divisions with the most tickets will win the People’s Choice awards.

Tickets for tasting will be sold for minimum $5 for five samples and $1 for each additional sample to taste.

There will also be ice cream, because, as in the words of Cowboy Mike, “It’s a sin to serve cobbler without ice cream!”

Entertainment throughout the day will include cowboy performer flutist Duane Paul of Duncan | and Two Belles also of Duncan.
A finale 2 hour concert will feature Gary S. Pratt. Jay Snider will emcee this event (which is set for the afternoon 1-5 p.m.) Cobbler entries to be accepted 12:30-1 p.m.  Event kickoff at 1 p.m.

A “Quickdraw Poetry Showcase” provides cowboy poets of all ages a chance to share their best or favorite poem. Only one reading per cowboy poet for the day. This event will be held outside (weather permitting). We are also excited to announce that the Heritage Herd longhorns will be on the property. There will also be some educational activities for families throughout the day.

A complete program of events will be released along with the entry forms March 1.  The forms will be added to the website and available in our front lobby at that time.

For information, contact Leah or Toni at the Heritage Center, (580) 252-6692.

It all happens April 4! Hope you will be a part of this fun day!
