Youth Art Month – Take a Journey Through Art
Mar 1 – Mar 31 all-day

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center annually hosts the Youth Art Month show that features art from students in area high schools. The 2020 show theme is “Take a Journey Through Art. This will be the 10th year for the museum to participate in the national program.

Art is submitted by the teachers on behalf of their students. A public reception is held for students, their families and other supporters of the program. Students who are interested in having their work displayed should contact their art teacher. Teachers who would like to submit work can contact Leah Mulkey, CTHC Education Coordinator for details.

There is no cost to the students or schools to participate, or to attend the public reception. The show has had anywhere from 140 to more than 300 pieces of art submitted by more than 100 area art students. Past shows have included mosaics, scratchboard, drawings, collage, paintings and photography. Art teachers are encouraged to follow the theme, but it is not required.

A Colorful Dream
Jun 16 – Aug 11 all-day

June 16 – Aug. 11 (dates are tentative),

“A Colorful Dream” is a family-friendly exhibit by contemporary fine art photographer Adrien Broom. This nationally touring show is from ExhibitsUSA and has many large scale images in monochromatic colors telling the story of a young girl’s journey in a fairy tale setting. Each image began as a full-scale set in Broom’s studio, carefully constructed down to the smallest details. Encountering creatures, characters and vivid landscapes, the young girl discovers colorful worlds. With 40 photographic images and time-lapse videos, this is an exhibit that will inspire imaginations and spark creativity. Make plans to visit to experience this colorful journey during its stay in Oklahoma – only at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center!

Adrien Broom is a contemporary fine art and commercial photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. Broom’s fine art photography often alludes to themes of childhood fantasy, using young women as protagonists. Her commercial work includes music, fashion, and portrait photography.  Trained as a computer animator, she has studied fine art in Florence, Italy, and art history in London, England.
