Texoma Gives is back! This one day fundraiser challenges you to give as little as $25 which can turn into big bucks for the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. Chisholm Trail Heritage Center is hosting a free writing workshop, Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019, to be led by Oklahoma author Beth Robinson. She will inspire writers of all ages in this two hour workshop.
It is recommended participants arrive about 1:15 p.m. The workshop begins at 1:30 p.m. (The museum does not open until 1 p.m.) Robinson is an award-winning writer who creates engaging dialogue with the participants. She offers many writing exercises and participants will have a hands-on opportunity to explore the museum in at least one writing exercise.
Students who are considering entering the Heritage Center’s second annual Cowboy Youth Poetry Contest are encouraged to attend this free workshop. Deadlines for entries in the student contest are Nov. 1, 2019.

“Looking Through Indian Eyes” will feature the art of Brent Learned, who is a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. The show is April 2 – June 30, 2020, at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, OK.
Learned, an Oklahoma City artist, wants people to realize after seeing his art that Native Americans still exist and they have stories to tell. He uses bold colors to tell his stories through paintings. Learn more about his work in this PBS News Hour article: https://to.pbs.org/2OtHMJF

Brent Learned’s “Buffalo” is one of three artworks, two paintings and one canvas, he loaned to the Heritage Center for the summer bison exhibit. All three of his pieces are available to purchase.
Cowboys and Cobbler Throwdown
Cowboys and Cobbler Throwdown is a new event coming to the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, Saturday, April 4, 2020. This tasty, fun fundraiser is open to all cowboys, cattle queens, and of course, bakers, youth ages 8-18; and adults, 19 and older.
Bakers must enter their own home-cooked cobbler. Bakers are limited to two different recipes. Dutch oven cobblers, large casserole and deep dish cobblers are all acceptable, but pies will not be accepted. There is no entry fee.
Non-monetary prizes to be awarded in several different categories, including an overall People’s Choice award. Tickets for tasting will be sold for $1 each. The cobbler with the most tickets will win the People’s Choice award.
Entertainment throughout the day will include cowboy performers Gary S. Pratt of Davis, and Jay Snider of Cyril, and flutist Duane Paul of Duncan.
