Cowboy Youth Poetry Contest

It’s our 2nd annual Chisholm Trail Cowboy Youth Poetry Contest. Your original cowboy poem could earn you some cash!

We are open Monday, September 2, 2019, Labor Day. Our hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (and 1-5 p.m. Sundays)

In fact – we are open daily – with the exception of Thanksgiving and Christmas Days.

Texoma Gives!

Texoma Gives is back! This one day fundraiser challenges you to give as little as $25 which can turn into big bucks for the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center. Youth Art Month – Take a Journey Through Art
Mar 1 – Mar 31 all-day

The Chisholm Trail Heritage Center annually hosts the Youth Art Month show that features art from students in area high schools. The 2020 show theme is “Take a Journey Through Art. This will be the 10th year for the museum to participate in the national program.

Art is submitted by the teachers on behalf of their students. A public reception will be 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5. All students, their families and other supporters of the program are invited to attend.

Students who are interested in having their work displayed should contact their art teacher. Teachers who would like to submit work can contact Leah Mulkey, CTHC Education Coordinator for details.

There is no cost to the students or schools to participate, or to attend the public reception. Historically, art entries range from 140 to more than 300 pieces of art submitted by more than 100 area art students. Past shows have included mosaics, scratchboard, drawings, collage, paintings and photography. Art teachers are encouraged to follow the theme, but it is not required. If you are a teacher who has never participated in the Heritage Center’s annual show, please contact Leah Mulkey in advance. Space is limited for art display.

Looking Through Indian Eyes
Apr 2 – Jun 30 all-day

“Looking Through Indian Eyes” will feature the art of Brent Learned, who is a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma. The show is April 2 – June 30, 2020, at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center in Duncan, OK.

Learned, an Oklahoma City artist, wants people to realize after seeing his art that Native Americans still exist and they have stories to tell. He uses bold colors to tell his stories through paintings. Learn more about his work in this PBS News Hour article: https://to.pbs.org/2OtHMJF

Brent Learned's "Buffalo"

Brent Learned’s “Buffalo” is one of three artworks, two paintings and one canvas, he loaned to the Heritage Center for the summer bison exhibit. All three of his pieces are available to purchase.
